About the Races
Dark Halloween Fun Run
The 1 mile Fun Run was added to our Halloween event in 2019 and is a fun and healthy alternative to Trick or Treating.
The fun run takes place in the beautiful grounds of Cockington Court. The location is stunning.
At the heart of Cockington Village lies Cockington Court, an historic manor house with roots in medieval times, surrounded by 460 acres of pretty country park. The perfect setting for a run on Halloween evening!!
Cockington Court also has over twenty craft studios, The Seven Dials cafe, walled art garden, Tudor rose garden, contemporary art gallery and a popular children’s play area. The grounds are beautifully maintained by the Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust charity and the court is run under the Torbay Development Agency.
The fun run route will be on some of the same course that the adults do on the 10k event. It will take you on the paths and grass trails of the arboretum.
The fun run takes place at dusk and due to the fading light torches are mandatory, it also adds to the Halloween fun. Children and adults fancy dress is very welcome and fully encouraged, you know us, any excuse to have fun, dress up, don a costume or look silly. And who doesn’t want to dress up on Halloween?
Age is from 3+ years ( accompanied )
This is a fun run rather than a race therefore there will NOT be any timings or published results. It’s just for fun! All entrants will wear a race number for safety. Adults can accompanying children. All participants need an entry.

We have collaborated with the Torbay Development agency and the Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust in making this event family friendly, we have 3 designated pay and display car parks in very close proximity to the Race HQ which will have extended opening hours for the event and there are toilets and a cafe at race Hq too. The Drum Inn pub is also a short walk across the green.
We are arranging for food and drink to be available to you so you can make an evening of it and feed your hungry little runners afterwards.
All entrants will wear a race number for safety. YOUR SAFETY IS ALWAYS MY TOP PRIORITY and the routes are heavily marshalled by friends, family and members of the running community most of them are runners themselves, the course is also marked with flashing light sticks, reflective arrows, barrier tape and reflective tape. Head torches or a source of light is mandatory for ALL THE HALLOWEEN EVENTS including the fun run.

Dark Halloween 5k & 10k
The Dark Halloween 5k and 10k are night races. Both take you on a very challenging spooktacular route through Cockington with the 10k then venturing into Scadson woods.
Cockington and it’s stunning land is managed by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust it’s one of my go to places to enjoy the trails. Both the 5k and 10k incorporate the hills of Cockington, the routes are challenging but suitable for all abilities. Events to me are about the enjoyment and the experience of your running accomplishments. So grab your running buddies and your best halloween fancy dress and come join us!!
Trail Running at night is enchanting with the darkness heightening your senses, it’s a different experience to running in the daylight. Our 5k route is a great opportunity to try night-time trail running. Suitable for all abilities, it’s certainly hilly, and the terrain ranges from gravel paths, grass tracks and woodland trails. The 10k has the same as it also does the same 5k route then it continues to Scadson Woods for a few more hills and a small tarmac path section around the lakes before bringing you back to Cockington Manor & Court.
Our course will be well sign posted with reflective arrows, marking tape, flashing light sticks and marshals along the route so you know you’re on the right track.
Your welfare is the most important factor to me therefore head/chest torches are mandatory kit on both the 5k & 10k distances, for your safety we operate a strict No head/chest torch No run policy. We will check you have your torch before giving you your race number, we cannot provide head torches if you forget yours. Please also wear reflective or bright gear if possible so you are seen from behind by other runners. Mandatory kit is a fully charged mobile phone in case of emergency or if your head torch fails.

Race HQ is at the picturesque Cockington Court Manor House which has a medieval history, perfect for a Halloween night trail run!
Fancy dress is not mandatory but is wholeheartedly encouraged.
It’s Halloween another excuse to dress up, if wearing fancy dress please bear in mind that you’ll be running through woodland and trails with branches etc, we don’t want anyone tripping themselves up on their mummy bandages or broomsticks.
There will be a Jollification station halfway (aid station) on the 10k option and refreshment at the finish for the 5k.
On finishing you will be presented with a Dark Halloween Medal and a Jolly Running Dark Halloween bandana/buff thing.
We give bespoke handmade prizes for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Man and Lady.
